Winding down in Montreal :(

Another wash day for my hair, another blog post. It's been a pretty great week since my last post :). Last Friday I went to Laser Quest with Nick and his research group which was AWESOME!! We did two rounds of laser tag. The first one was a free-for-all round and the second one was teams. Our group was in the maze with a group of little kids which made it a bit annoying but still fun. And that was my workout for the day cause my feet and legs were killing me afterwards.

I forgot to take a picture when we went so we went back so I could get a picture. :) I would definitely go back next time I'm in Montreal.  The only problem was that there was this one guy that was in there that kept following me and another girl in our group. There was a 5 second lag after we got tagged and he would stand there and wait for us to regenerate and then shoot us again. Like seriously how stupid is that?? Not even the little kids were doing that. And he just looked creepy.

Yesterday we did my most favorite-ist thing. We FINALLY went ice skating!! We walked down to the building with the triangle on top called the Atrium and there is was.

For someone who hasn't even roller bladed I think I did ok. By the end of it I was able to skate like half the rink without holding onto the wall and I didn't even fall! :) Nick was doing fine since he's been ice skating before but he stayed with me most of the time while i slowly skated around. And that was my workout for that day. So. Much. Fun!

Of course after an afternoon of skating one just has to go shopping :) We checked out the sale at H&M but the stuff there wasn't so good so we went over to old faithful Forever 21. As usual I can find whatever I want and don't want there. Nick even found a couple shirts. It's finally hitting me that I'm actually leaving Montreal next Tuesday, back to New York. My online course is finishing up and its almost time to start the next one. As much as summer courses quicken up the graduating time and everything, I still sort of miss having an actual summer vacation where I get to wake up and do nothing without feeling guilty or that feeling where you have stuff to do. But thankfully I get like 2 or 3 weeks near the end of August to do nothing which will be fun.

Onto world cup news. This has to be the most surprising world cup ever. With so many top teams going home and some underdogs doing well, it's an awesome tournament. Who could have predicted that USA could almost get a win out of Portugal. Everyone thought it was such a great win for USA but then that sneaky goal got in with only seconds to spare. I was so happy for USA to upset Portugal and I so wanted to see Christiano Ronaldo cry on the field. I was so ready to see that.

Workouts haven't been going so great as I haven't been doing it everyday anymore. I had planned to do some today but it was so nice and rainy outside that staying in bed was the only option. Tomorrow things will go back to normal and I will be my very own drill sergeant and kick my own butt.

For now I need to go finish dealing my hair and do some work.

Until next wash day :)

It's World Cup Season!

So this post is about 4 days late and the football World Cup is to blame. I've been watching about 2 matches per day if not more and its been an awesome tournament so far with tons of surprises and upsets. Like seriously how in the world is Barcelona-and-Friends (Spain) knocked out already. I know everyone is blaming the players and yea they're part of the problem but half of BaF is on Real Madrid and they were playing in the Champions League up to like a month ago so of course they're tired and then to go straight to national practices or whatever while tired is gonna cause problems. To me the other problem with BaF is management. WHY of WHY would you put these tired players to play full matches when there are other people who haven't played that much but would still do well. Like Fabregas should've played more especially in the second match and WHY WAS TORRES PLAYING? There were so many things wrong and the players just looked frustrated with the choices made by management. I actually feel bad for some of the players, not Casillas. Casillas played his old way of coming out the box like if he belongs out with everyone else. Someone needs to pay him to stay in his goal bars stop coming out so far. It's the same crap he does at Real Madrid and they stopped playing him as much so that should have been the first sign that he should have been on the bench. Sigh, the only other teams I'm supporting are the Netherlands, France maybe but only because of Benzema, Argentina, and of course Brasil. Portugal will be a team to watch especially with the antics of Pepe to keep everyone entertained but its far from surprising. He plays the same way with Madrid. The only difference is that Marcelo isn't there to keep his company and to take turns.

The last time I posted it was around "midterm" time for my online course and it was a lovely week. I lazied around and watched a whole lot of Netflix, I watched more hair videos, studied a little for the midterm and did the project. It was a pretty good week. Now that it's back to normal the last thing I feel like doing is work. It's Thursday which means that by my normal standards I would be almost done these two modules but I'm not even half way through the first one. After this England-Uruguay match it's gonna be a whole long of work being done tonight because tomorrow is LASER TAG!! I'm so excited to play some real life Halo. Yes that is an indication of how I will be playing. It will be just like how I play at home, maybe even a little worse. I'm just excited.

Of course reviews have to be in here. We (finally) watched X-Men: Days of Future Past last week and let me just tell you: WOW!

I liked how the movie continued to fill in the blanks between the last movie and this one and they introduced more characters that we know from the cartoon X-Men: Evolution, Speedy Magneto's son. I was really satisfied with the movie especially how even though the movie was really long it didn't feel long. It just felt like we were living through it. And who knew Kitty had that power. Like how much more can all of the other's powers evolve? I was still left with a couple questions.
1) Why was Mistique pretending to be Striker at the end? Does that mean she takes Logan and does the whole "make his bones metal" thing since Magneto mentioned it earlier?
2) If its Mistique that takes Logan when and how does he meet Striker and if history was changed by Mistique not killing the Trask guy and taking Logan does that mean that Logan doesn't have the metal claws in the future?

Yea the movie left me with a whole lot of questions that I'm sure they'll fill in with the next movie (they better) but I just want to know now.

What else have I been doing?? Well I've been exercising again which has been fun. I only did it once this week because of World Cup but it's been good. I also tried a caesar salad from Smart Burger which left a lot to be desired.

For one it didn't have in chicken like I thought it would. That would cost another $3. I don't even think I'm going to get a salad from there again cause the croutons were so soft and not yummy that I don't even want to experience that again. The lettuce was also drowning in salad dressing that just made it hard to eat. There is a new place close to Smart Burger that has salads that I think I will try.

Next week, my last week here, we're going to watch Transformers!!

I'm actually very excited to watch this partially because its a whole new human cast and mostly because of Mark Wahlberg. The story line seems a bit interesting as well but its a Michael Bay movie so its gonna be whole lot of explosions and gun fire which will make it AWESOME to watch in IMAX :)

So Uruguay just scored on England and it's almost half time so I'll use this time to get some stuff done before world cup sucks me back in :)

kthnxbai ;)

It's Already June!

I can't believe it's already June which sadly means that my time in Montreal is coming to an end in a couple weeks. Things have normalized somewhat and I'm getting back in the swing of studying and not spending all day watching Netflix. My online course is going really well and its about time for "midterms" and projects so it's going to be a week full of reading and studying. Seeing as it is Monday, I decided it was time for a fresh start. You know the whole "new week new me" thing but mainly I plan to actually exercise and get back on my healthy eating plan. It is so liberating to eat whatever craving I'm having that day but it's time to get back on that wagon so to speak and eat healthily again. I still have the challenge of finding a caesar salad here to challenge the Wendy's salad. I've only tried the salad from A&W so far but it was good.

I think I'll try the one from Smart Burger and then McGill Pizza this week. So far from McGill Pizza we've had their pizza of course and I tried their spaghetti and meat sauce which I didn't like so much. Subway had a salad too so I'll try there as well.

Over the weekend Nick and I went to Reuben's for breakfast which was amazing! Unfortunately I dug into my meal before I remembered to take a picture but hopefully we get to go back and I'll take one. I got the sampler and he got the classic. They're basically the same but mine comes with an extra 2 pancakes. Let me warn you, it is A LOT of food. But it is really good food. We went on Saturday so there were a lot of people there for the Canada Grand Prix. On the way home we stopped at a sort of car show with a bunch of super cars on display like Porsche and Ferrari.

It was a lot of fun and we got to play Forza Motorsport 5 on the new X Box One. We went shopping after and I got a maxi dress and some cheap camisoles from Forever 21 but they didn't really have anything great. It was either expensive or it was just blaah so hopefully we'll go to some other stores this weekend. I don't want to go shopping crazy but getting a couple new stuff would be nice.

Today is wash hair day and right now I'm doing a pre-shampoo treatment but I am STARVING. I did a little cardio today so I'm easing back into exercising. I don't have a pilates mat but I found a bunch of other things I can do without having to buy a new mat. I think while I do my deep condition I will cook some lunch and make a salad so that I don't have to buy anything to eat just yet. It sort of feels like I'm finally comfortable here and I can actually get up and do stuff. Like it's not a vacation anymore. This week I really want to get a lot done so I need to stay active and busy and tomorrow I FINALLY get to go see X-Men (fingers crossed!)

Speaking of movies, I read The Fault In Our Stars last week and as expected I bawled like a baby.

There's something honest about a person who has come to terms with a sickness and just wants to enjoy whatever time is left. It's not that they've given up but more like they've accepted what is to come. I guess it could be a coping mechanism for people in those situations but I've kind of always thought like that. Like whatever is supposed to happen will happen so all we can do is enjoy life as it is right now. I sort of developed this way of thinking after watching a movie called Tuck Everlasting.

It's about this family who drank from the fountain of youth so now they don't age and can't be killed. But the son meets a girl who he wants to spend his forever with and asks her to drink from the fountain but his father is against it. When he asks her why she wants to be with their family she says she doesn't want to die so he tells her "Don't fear death, fear a life not lived". I've always loved this quote and it makes so much sense.

Anyway, its about time I go wash my hair now and get some food.

Au revoir :)

Montreal Update!

I can't believe I've been in Montreal for almost 2 weeks already! Like seriously it only feels like a couple days except that I've already washed my hair twice so that adds a little perspective. So what have I been doing?? Of course I've been eating :) and lots of sleeping since it is summer and all. I'm re-watching the second season of Arrow with Nick and season 1 of Young Justice. It's cool watching them at the same time because in Arrow, Oliver's sister Thea has the nick name Speedy which is Roy's nick name in Young Justice so it has its connections. It also took me a while to realize that Slade in Arrow is Slade from Teen Titans. My next goal is to get Nick caught up on Revenge and Teen Wolf :)

Anyways....Today while my hair was deep conditioning it was "watch-a-random-movie-on-Netflix" time and this time it was one called Tiger Eyes.

I basically chose this because of Willa Holland and the fact that Netflix didn't say much about it. From the description I thought it was just going to be a corny love story where a girl finds love in a new town after her dad dies but its not. And that caught me by surprise. It reminded me of the movie Keith in a way but it had a happier ending. For the entire movie we're left wondering how her dad died but then when she's telling us how he died I was sort of wishing it was different.

Onto music! :D I have been loving the new music for this year. After I stopped listening to Rude by Magic! constantly I found some other cool songs. Of course I am in LOVE with Fancy by Iggy Azalea so I'm definitely going to get her album.

New song number 2 issss Stay with me by Sam Smith. I saw this song title a couple places but I had never heard of Sam Smith before but then I realized he is the guy who sings with Disclosure for the song Latch and he sang with Naughty Boy for La La La and i LOVE those songs! So yea I love his song but mostly I love his voice so that is another album I'm going to get.

Of course there had to be some Ed Sheeran songs in here. I got his song Sing a while ago and then since I watched the finale of The Voice I wanted to get his song All of the Stars from the movie The Fault In Our Stars. Speaking of The Fault In Our Stars, I have yet to read this book.

I have it on my computer and I've been meaning to read it but I keep hearing that its really sad and I'm not sure I want a sad book right now but I want to read it before the movie comes out :( So I'm going to watch it while I'm here in Montreal so that I actually know what these references are about. Right back to the Ed Sheeran songs. I love sing and now I love All of the Stars and I also love his other song One. His songs all seem so personal but yet everyone can relate to them.

Ok that's a lot. I'm also now hooked on the game 2048 and I even had a dream about it last night which was a bit strange but I'm addicted. So that is what I'm going to do now before we eat dinner which smells amazing right now!

Later,
xoxo Carla :)
